Sources reviewed October 16, 2026 Benchmarks are fixed in this version; they do not update automatically. Dates below distinguish publication from the period studied.

[1] Gallup. Corey Tatel and Ben Wigert, “42% of Employee Turnover Is Preventable but Often Ignored.” July 9, 2024; links updated February 16, 2026. Replacement estimates: frontline 40%, technical professionals 80%, leaders/managers 200% of salary. The update does not establish new 2026 replacement-cost research. Read source.

[2] HR Acuity. Tenth Annual Employee Relations Benchmark Study, released June 25, 2026; data year 2025. Sample: 274 U.S. organizations with at least 1,000 employees, representing 8.8 million employees globally. Reported issues per 1,000: DHR 15.5; total ER 145.5. These are sample reference rates, not predictions or legal-dispute incidence rates. Read source and methodology.

[3] CPP, July 2008. U.S. employees reported 2.8 hours weekly dealing with conflict. Historical context, not a current default. Read original report.

  • Turnover = departures × salary × replacement percentage.
  • Salary-based hourly value = annual salary ÷ annual work hours (editable; default 2,080). Benefits and payroll taxes are excluded.
  • Informal concerns = employee and manager hours × respective hourly values.
  • Performance/ER handling = matters × manager and HR time × respective hourly values.
  • Investigations = count × person-hours × hourly value + external expenses.
  • Absence = uncovered hours × hourly value + additional overtime and temporary coverage expenses.

All starting case counts and labor hours are illustrative. Use actual data where available. HR Acuity reference rates describe issues at employers with at least 1,000 U.S. employees; they are not targets or unique case counts. Historical conflict research is context, not a current default. Blank inputs contribute zero; zero does not establish that no cost exists. Negative inputs are treated as zero. Hourly values use salary only; annual work hours must be greater than zero. Figures are planning estimates, not fully loaded employment costs.

Prevent overlap: do not include vacancy/ramp-up losses already in replacement costs; do not repeat case hours as conflict time; exclude the same performance/ER handling activity across categories; exclude outside legal invoices from internal case rates. The calculator cannot detect overlapping entries.
